My wife recently gave birth to our second daughter and she’s been home with us for a few days now. The first night we had her home, we noticed she was a bit congested while sleeping in her bedroom. So, we quickly made the decision to purchase a humidifier for the room in an effort to help her sleep a bit more comfortably. Since I didn’t really feel like driving too far (we had been up with her all night and I was tired) I once again made a trip up the street to Walgreens. After looking at a couple different humidifiers, I ended up buying their store brand version.
The only reason I settled on the Walgreens Cool Mist Humidifier was price. The other brands I was looking at cost as much as $40. The Walgreens brand was only $20 and I figured there probably wasn’t enough of a difference to justify paying more.
Overall, I think this was a good purchase. I say this mostly because it is doing what we hoped it would; adding enough humidity to the room for her to sleep a bit more comfortably. In fact, it works better than I expected; but I honestly can’t say if that’s because this is a great product or because she has a small room.
The one thing I did like about this particular product is it didn’t have a filter that constantly needs changing. I’ve had a problem with humidifiers in the past because they required a filter and, shortly after buying them, the company would stop making the model and the replacement filters. Not having one is definitely an advantage.
However, there are a couple things I don’t like about this product too – which are all fairly mentioned at www.roomhumidifierguide.com.
First, the device doesn’t have a power switch on it. You have to plug it in to turn it on and unplug it to turn it off. That’s a bit of a pain; especially if you have to do that in the middle of the night in a dark room. It would also be nice if the humidifier had a high/low setting on it too.
The humidifier is also very noisy. Most that we’ve had made some noise but this one is definitely the loudest we’ve owned. It doesn’t seem to disturb our daughter, but we have baby monitors that amplify the sounds in her room so it does disturb us at night almost as much as her regular feedings do.
For the price, I think it is an OK product. But, if I would have been up to shopping around, I feel I would have been better off doing so.
